In the second Test match of the West Indies Tour of India 2025, India defeated West Indies by seven wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

India’s first innings was a testament to batting depth and discipline. The top order lay the groundwork, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (175) leading the charge with an outstanding daddy hundred, demonstrating quality, composure, and control. Shubman Gill (129*) also batted calmly and maturely, adding another ton to his name. Sai Sudharsan (87) also excelled, while KL Rahul (38) and Nitish Reddy (43) made valuable contributions. Dhruv Jurel added a quick 44. The Indian batters formed lengthy partnerships, successfully blunting the West Indies bowlers and dictating the tempo. A declaration of 518/5 demonstrated tactical intent and full domination.

The West Indies’ bowlers failed to make inroads into India’s innings. Jomel Warrican had the most success, delivering 3/98 while challenging the left-handers with fly and angle. Roston Chase claimed one wicket but lacked punch.

Despite a bright start, the West Indies’ answer fell short. John Campbell and Chanderpaul (34) provided a promising start, but after Campbell fell early on, the innings never recovered. Alick Athanaze (41) and Shai Hope (36) gave some middle-order steadiness, but regular wickets hampered progress. The collapse began with Hope’s departure as the lower order struggled to contribute substantially. Their 248 was much below par in response to India’s 518.

India’s bowlers were clinical in the first innings. Kuldeep Yadav grabbed the spotlight with a five-wicket haul. Ravindra Jadeja was as decisive, taking 3/56 with unwavering precision and bounce. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj established the tone early with controlled tempo stretches, while Washington Sundar made a modest but effective contribution.

Following on, the West Indies shown significantly greater effort. John Campbell’s (115) magnificent ton kept the innings together for the first two sessions, with Shai Hope contributing a slick 70. Following the early dismissals of Chanderpaul and Athanaze, the middle order recovered, with contributions from Imlach (12) and skipper Chase (40). The genuine surprise came from the lower order, notably Jayden Seales, who hammered 32 off 22 balls. Justin Greaves remained undefeated at 50. Their 390 was a significant improvement, but it was only enough to force India to bat again, with a tiny target of 121.

The Indian bowlers were put under more pressure in the second innings, but they stayed cool. Kuldeep added three more wickets to his match tally, while Bumrah emerged in the late stages to take 3/54 and finish out the tail. Siraj struck twice early, and Sundar defeated Athanaze.

India raced out to a quick and controlled start as they chased 121 for victory. Yashasvi Jaiswal had a brief presence before falling early, but KL Rahul seized control with an undefeated 58, steering the chase with steady authority. Sai Sudharsan (39) played another confident performance before being removed by Roston Chase, who also took Gill’s wicket (13). Jurel (6*) offered consistent assistance in the finish.

The target was never ever in doubt, as India comfortably finished the chase with seven wickets in hand to secure a comprehensive victory.

With this win, India conclude the series with 2-0 lead.
