In the fifth T20I match of India tour of West Indies 2022, India beat West Indies by 88 runs at the Central Boward Regional Park Stadium in Florida.
Indian stand-in captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first. With no Rohit Sharma in the playing XI, Ishan Kishan (11) and Shreyas Iyer (64) opened the batting for India and gave a positive start in the powerplay. Although Kishan lost his wicket early, Iyer scored a fabulous fifty which aided India to reach a massive score. With eight fours and two sixes, Iyer looked in some fine touch. Deepak Hooda (38) also scored important runs in the middle overs along with Hardik Pandya (28), who gave the final touches to the Indian inning.
While chasing, no batsmen really got going as West Indies kept on losing wickets throughout the inning. Only Shimron Hetmyer (56) batted well and saved the team’s pride. In his inning, he smashed five fours and four sixes which somehow took West Indies to a three-digit total. With such poor batting performance, the home team was restricted to 100 runs in just 15.4 overs.
Ravi Bishnoi acquired four wickets in the second innings which included a massive wicket of Hetmyer. Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel also picked three wickets each.
For WI, Odean Smith scalped three wickets in his quota of four overs. One wicket each were also taken by Jason Holder, Dominic Drakes and Hayden Walsh.
Axar Patel was awarded Man of the Match for his excellent bowling performance. Following this win, India have concluded the West Indies tour with T20I series win 4-1.
