India vs West Indies 2022 2nd ODI: Axar powers India in an epic run chase thriller

With this win, India have secured ODI series by 2-0.

In the second ODI match of the India tour of West Indies 2022, India beat West Indies by two wickets at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

West Indies captain, Nicholas Pooran won the toss and asked India to bowl first. The Indian bowlers weren’t looking at their best tonight as almost everyone conceded heavy runs. Shardul Thakur had a great outing with the ball along with Axar Patel and Mohammed Siraj. Even though bowlers tried their best, West Indies managed to get to 311 runs in 50 overs.

While chasing, captain Shikhar Dhawan (13) was out early in the innings, but his partner, Shubman Gill (43) provided India with a much-needed start. Along with him, Shreyas Iyer (63) also helped the Men in Blue to get close to the total with his all-important half-century. Furthermore, it was a complete team effort in the chase as Sanju Samson (54) registered his maiden ODI half-century.Everything was going well for India until the team experienced turbulence and lost a few wickets quickly. Finally, it was up to Axar Patel (64*) and his teammates from the other end to finish the job. The tailenders supported Patel immensely with their valuable knock, ensuring India’s victory in the 2nd ODI.

The innings began beautifully for WI, with both openers, Shai Hope (115) and Kyle Mayers (39) playing powerfully in the initial overs. Hope smashed a brilliant century which made sure the team posts a strong target for the opponents. Along with him, captain Nicholas Pooran (74) also played amazingly to take his team to a mammoth total of 311/6. Pooran struck one four and six massive sixes in his inning which helped WI at the backend of the inning.

Shardul Thakur was at his best tonight as he scalped three wickets in the first inning. Along with him, Deepak Hooda, Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal also managed to pick one wicket each.

Alzarri Joseph and Kyle Mayers grabbed two wickets each and with them, Akeal Hosein, Romario Shepherd and Jayden Seales got a wicket each.

Axar Patel was awarded Man of the Match for his incredible batting performance. With this win, India have secured ODI series by 2-0.
