India vs South Africa 2nd ODI: Match preview and head-to-head

In the head-to-head competition in the ODI format, South Africa has the upper hand.

In the India tour of South Africa, the second ODI of the three-match series will be played at the Boland Park in Paarl on Friday, January 21 at 2 PM IST. The hosts are currently leading the series 1-0.

The Indians will be heading into this fixture on the back of a 31-run defeat in the first game of the ODI series. The upcoming fixture will be a do-or-die game for the stand-in captain KL Rahul. The lack of contribution from the middle-order in the run chase proved costly to the Indian team in the first ODI. A healthy contribution from the top order Indian batsmen Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan along with the gritty knock of Shardul Thakur were the positives of the first game. The Indian camp will aim to strengthen their middle-order. A victory on Friday for the Indians will keep the series alive.

On the other hand, South Africa will walk into this game on a confident note after restricting India in the run chase on Wednesday. The in-form top-order batsmen and the disciplined bowling line-up makes the Proteas favourites to win the game. A victory on Friday will help the hosts to clinch the ODI bilateral series.

In the head-to-head competition between the two teams, South Africa has the upper hand. The two teams played against each other on 85 occasions so far, South Africa won 47 games while India emerged victorious on 35 instances.
