The first T20I of the South Africa tour of India 2025 is all set to be held today, December 9, at 7:30 PM, at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
India are the world’s best T20I side, with the explosive Abhishek Sharma leading the way, the returning vice-captain Shubman Gill, and Suryakumar Yadav‘s superb stroke play. The return of all-rounder Hardik Pandya and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah substantially enhances the team. Gill has been out for over a month after having a neck spasm during the first Test, and with a hard workload since the previous IPL, his management will be strictly monitored. Furthermore, India’s spin attack, led by Kuldeep Yadav‘s wrist spin and the mysterious Varun Chakravarthy, is likely to be a crucial weapon at home.
South Africa brings a lot of firepower to the shortest format, with significant performances from Anrich Nortje and David Miller. The batting lineup is led by Quinton de Kock and Miller, with young, energetic players like Dewald Brevis and Tristan Stubbs providing support. Captain Aiden Markram offers solidity and an effective off-spin option. Their pace attack, which includes Nortje, Lungi Ngidi, and Marco Jansen, has the knack of bowling at high speeds and troubling Indian batsmen. They will be looking to capitalise on their pristine 2-0 record against India at this venue.
