India vs New Zealand 3rd ODI: Men in Blue clean sweeps the Kiwis

Following this victory, India have cleaned swept New Zealand in the three-match ODI series and have also gained the no.1 spot in the ICC Men’s ODI team rankings.

In the third ODI match of the New Zealand tour of India 2023, India defeated New Zealand by 90 runs at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.

New Zealand skipper Tom Latham won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision backfired as the Indian openers went all guns blazing straightaway. The duo, Rohit Sharma (101) and Shubman Gill (112), hammered a quickfire century to give India a strong start. The captain, in his inning, smashed nine fours and six sixes while Gill struck 13 fours and five sixes. Prior to Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, the pair put together a first-wicket partnership of 212 runs. In addition, Virat Kohli (36) added a few more runs in the middle, and together with him, Ishan Kishan (17) and Suryakumar Yadav (14) helped India deliver an outstanding score. Although India was scoring runs, the team was also losing wickets at regular intervals. Towards the end, Hardik Pandya (54) went on to smash a half-century which took India to a massive score of 385/9 in 50 overs.

While chasing, the lone standout batsman for New Zealand was opener Devon Conway (138), who hammered a huge hundred. The batter hit eight sixes and 12 fours, helping New Zealand finish with a respectable total of 295/10. Mitchell Santner (34), Michael Bracewell (26), and Henry Nicholls (42) all managed a handful of runs, but it wasn’t enough.

Shardul Thakur along with Kuldeep Yadav plucked three wickets while defending. Yuzvendra Chahal also bagged two wickets. With them, one wicket each was also claimed by Hardik Pandya and Umran Malik.

Although NZ gave too many runs away in the first innings, they also successfully picked up nine wickets as well. Three wickets each were grabbed by Blair Tickner and Jacob Duffy, while Michael Bracewell also managed to get one.

Shardul Thakur was named Man of the Match for his electrifying bowling performance. Following this victory, India have cleaned swept New Zealand in the three-match ODI series and have also gained the no.1 spot in the ICC Men’s ODI team rankings.
