India vs New Zealand 2nd Test: The Hosts register a massive 372-run victory

Ashwin was named Man of the Series for his 14 wickets throughout the series.

India beat New Zealand by 372 runs in the second and final Test match of the bilateral series. Along with the match, the hosts also sealed the series by 1-0. After ending up with a stalemate while being on the verge of victory in the Kanpur Test, the Indians have gone past the finish line in the second match in Mumbai.

The heroic effort by Mayank Agarwal in the first innings along with vital contributions from Axar Patel helped India to register a total of 325. India’s bowling unit bundled the New Zealand batting line-up to a humiliating total of 62. A four-wicket haul by Ravichandran Ashwin put the Kiwis on their knees and took the control of the match. Consistent contributions with the bat from the top-order helped the hosts to set up a humongous target of 540 for the Blackcaps. In the final two sessions of Day 3, New Zealand lost five wickets for 140. India’s in-form spinner Ashwin and Patel derailed the Kiwi batting line-up without letting them put many runs on the board. In the morning session of Day 4, Jayant Yadav trapped the lower order of New Zealand by taking four wickets and secured the game for India without breaking a sweat.

Ajaz Patel was the star performer for New Zealand in the Test match where his team was completely outplayed by the hosts. The Mumbaikar took 14 wickets in the entire match, while in the first innings Patel registered a 10-wicket haul.

For India, Ashwin had eight scalps to his name while Jayant pocketed five wickets. Axar and Mohammed Siraj had three wickets each in the entire game.

Agarwal was adjudged Man of the Match for his momentous effort with the bat. The opener smashed 150 and 62 in the first and second innings respectively. The off-spinner Ashwin was named Man of the Series for his 14 wickets throughout the series.
