In the New Zealand tour of India 2023, the first T20I will take place on Friday, January 27, at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi at 7 PM IST.
After clean sweeping the ODI series, the Men in Blue will walk into the T20I series with their heads up high. The Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been rested for the T20I series. Hardik Pandya will lead the side with the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Jitesh Sharma, Shivam Mavi and Rahul Tripathi in the squad. The Indian unit going forward will be aiming to replicate a similar performance to the ODI fixtures.
On the other end, New Zealand will also witness a change in the captaincy with all-rounder Mitchell Santner taking charge of the team. In this shortest format too, the Kiwis will take on the Indians with an inexperienced team without Kane Williamson, Trent Boult and Tim Southee. The visitors will have to put up a special performance in the T20I series to outdo the Indians on their turf.
Head-to-head:
India lead the head-to-head competition between the two teams in the shortest format. The two sides collided on 22 occasions, India won 12 matches and lost nine fixtures.
