India vs England: BCCI announces squad for ODI series

The final leg of England’s long tour of India will begin next week in Pune as the two sides play the three-match ODI series. BCCI announced an 18-man squad for the series against defending World Champions on Friday. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were reportedly going to be rested, but the two senior batsmen feature on this list. Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for this series.

Suryakumar Yadav has got a maiden call-up to the ODI squad. The Mumbai-based batsman made his T-20 international debut for India in the second T-20I against England last week. Along with Yadav, Krunal Pandya also gets a call up to the ODI squad after a string of impressive performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shubman Gill also retains his place in the ODI squad.

In the bowling department, Prasidh Krishna gets a maiden call up for India after impressing in the domestic circuit. Mohammed Siraj has also been added to the ODI squad, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar returns to the team after a long injury layoff. Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami remain on the sidelines as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.

After a strong test series against England, Rishabh Pant is back in the ODI squad. The explosive wicketkeeper-batsman has been fairly decent during the ongoing T-20 series against England in Ahmedabad. Pant and KL Rahul are the two wicketkeeping options for India during this series.

India’s immediate focus will be on the final T-20 game against England on Saturday. The Men in Blue levelled the series on Thursday with a clinical display with bat and ball. Suryakumar Yadav was the star with the bat as he notched up his first half-century in T-20 internationals, while pace trio of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, and Shardul Thakur excelled with the ball. The game on Saturday will decide the winner of the series.
