England won the toss and asked India to bat first. It was a spectacular show at the Wankhede as the Men in Blue showcased their best batting display tonight by posting a massive score of 247/9. Major credit for this goes to the southpaw opener Abhishek Sharma (135), who hammered a thunderous century off just 37 balls. The manner in which he hit the boundaries with ease, controlling the innings while accelerating at the perfect times, demonstrated his maturity and power-hitting ability, something of which Yuvraj Singh would certainly be proud of. India lost pace towards the final overs as they lost wickets in quick succession, but Abhishek delivered a few ferocious hits before exiting in the 18th over. Mark Wood bowled an outstanding 19th over, conceding only three runs. As a result of that, India was unable to score more than 250 runs. Shivam Dube (30) also hit a few blows but pretty much it was enough to secure the fourth-highest T20I total for India.
Chasing 248, England got off to a strong start with Phil Salt (55) smashing from ball one. While Salt secured his half-century, from the other end, no batter could manage to answer the question asked by Indian bowlers. Jacob Bethell (10) was the only other batter to get to the two-digit mark. The unit got bundled for 97 runs in just 10.3 overs.
While defending, pacer Mohammad Shami scalped three wickets. Two wickets each were also grabbed by Varun Chakaravarthy, Shivam Dube and Abhishek Sharma. Ravi Bishnoi also bagged a wicket.
For the visitors with the ball, Brydon Carse picked up three wickets and two wickets were taken by Mark Wood. One wicket each was also secured by Jofra Archer, Jamie Overton, and Adil Rashid.
Abhishek Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match and Varun Chakaravarthy was adjudged Player of the Series. With this win, India won the series 4-1.
