In the final match of Bangladesh’s 2024 tour of India, India secured a dominant 133-run victory in the 3rd T20I, held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, to complete a 3-0 series sweep.

India won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts made one change, bringing in Ravi Bishnoi for Arshdeep Singh, while Bangladesh made two adjustments, introducing Tanzid Hasan and Mahedi Hasan in place of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Jaker Ali. The match marked the final T20I appearance of Mahmudullah, whose 17-year and 41-day T20I career is the third-longest in history. He also stands as the fourth-highest in terms of matches played, with 141 appearances.

India’s batting lineup erupted in spectacular fashion, igniting the festive atmosphere in the country. After losing Abhishek Sharma early, captain Suryakumar Yadav and Sanju Samson put on a dazzling display, capitalising on a pitch tailor-made for batters. Samson set the tone with four consecutive boundaries, and by the end of the powerplay, India had reached 82/1, their highest powerplay score in T20I history.

Samson’s fireworks continued as he smashed the fastest fifty by an Indian against Bangladesh, reaching the milestone in just 22 balls. His sensational form saw him hit five consecutive sixes, propelling India to 152/1 at the halfway mark. Samson eventually reached his maiden T20I century, taking just 40 balls to do so, making him the fourth-fastest player globally to achieve the feat. His 173-run partnership with Suryakumar Yadav set India on course for a massive total.

Even after the departure of both set batters, the assault did not stop. Riyan Parag, promoted up the order, and Hardik Pandya continued the onslaught, taking India past 200 in just 14 overs—the second-fastest 200 by a team in T20I history. The Indian innings finally concluded at a staggering 297/6, the second-highest total ever in T20I cricket and India’s highest. The innings featured a record 47 boundaries, the most ever in a T20I innings.

Bangladesh’s chase began disastrously as Parvez Hossain was dismissed off the first ball. Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to rebuild, but their 35-run partnership was cut short by Washington Sundar and Bishnoi, who claimed Shanto’s wicket and, in doing so, became the youngest Indian to reach 50 T20I wickets in just 33 matches—the third-fastest overall.

Litton Das (42 off 25) and Towhid Hridoy (63* off 42) provided some resistance, with Litton hitting five successive fours and Hridoy notching up a half-century. The duo shared a fifty-run stand, but the result was never in doubt. India’s bowling attack kept Bangladesh in check, ultimately restricting them to a total far below the required target.

India secured a resounding 133-run win, capping off their 21st T20I victory of 2024, a year in which they have maintained a win percentage of 95.45—the best ever for a team that has played at least 12 T20Is in a calendar year.

Sanju Samson was named Player of the Match for his electrifying century, while Hardik Pandya, for his all-round contributions throughout the series, was awarded Player of the Series.

Scorecard:

India: 297/6, Overs 20, Sanju Samson 111, Tanzim Hasan Sakib 3/66

Bangladesh: 164-7, Overs 20, Towhid Hridoy 63*, Ravi Bishnoi 3/30
