The second T20I of Bangladesh tour of India 2024 is set to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, with the match starting at 7:00 PM IST.
Following a dominant performance in the first game, India will be looking to seal the series, while Bangladesh will be aiming to bounce back and level the contest.
Despite fielding two debutants and a mix of fresh talent, India made quick work of Bangladesh in the opening T20I held in Gwalior. Chasing a modest target of 128, India stormed to victory inside 12 overs, winning by seven wickets. Bangladesh’s batting faltered, and the Indian bowlers, along with their powerful batting lineup, proved too strong.
Heading into the second T20I, Bangladesh face a formidable challenge. The Arun Jaitley Stadium is known for its fast-scoring nature, making it one of India’s most challenging grounds for opposition bowlers. Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side will need a special performance to overcome India’s firepower, especially with the added motivation of giving a memorable farewell to veteran Mahmudullah, who is expected to retire from the format soon.
India, on the other hand, are riding high on confidence. Their bowling attack, featuring a balanced mix of pace and spin, executed their roles to perfection in Gwalior. The team’s adaptability and depth are becoming key strengths, and the first T20I showcased the aggressive style that Suryakumar Yadav and Gautam Gambhir have adopted, continuing the template set by Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. Additionally, with as many as eight bowling options, Suryakumar called this “a happy headache,” signalling the abundance of talent at their disposal.
Delhi’s venue has historically favoured high-scoring games, especially after its pitch was relaid. The small, sub-65-metre square boundaries will come into play once again, adding pressure on the bowlers. Since 2022, the stadium has hosted 12 Indian Premier League (IPL) matches and one T20I, with teams batting first winning eight times. In IPL 2024, all five fixtures in Delhi saw first-inning scores surpass 200, suggesting another run-fest could be on the cards tonight.
Head-to-Head:
As for the head-to-head record, India hold a dominant position, winning 14 of the 15 T20I encounters between the two sides. However, Bangladesh can take heart from their sole victory, which came at this venue, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the contest.
