India tour of Zimbabwe 1st ODI: Men in Blue secure series lead 1-0

In the first ODI match of India’s tour of Zimbabwe 2022, India beat Zimbabwe by ten wickets at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.

After winning the toss, KL Rahul made the choice to bowl first. The decision proved to be correct, as the Men in Blue held the hosts to 189 runs. Deepak Chahar dismissed Zimbabwe’s top order, and Axar Patel‘s astounding spell brought the first inning to a close in just 40 overs.

While chasing, both the openers, Shikhar Dhawan (81*) and Shubman Gill (82*), played throughout the inning and ensured India’s win in the first ODI. The southpaw hit nine fours and one six, while Gill hit ten fours and one six. Both batters were cautious and took no risks, allowing India to accomplish more than just a convincing victory at the Harare Sports Club. Not just a win, but a triumph by ten wickets is a huge accomplishment.

Zimbabwe captain Regis Chakabva (35) played a crucial knock in the first innings. Along with him, Richard Ngarava (34) and Brad Evans (33) contributed significant runs to Zimbabwe’s 189/10 total. Both tailenders contributed 70 runs for the ninth wicket partnership, ensuring that the hosts had something to defend.

Prasidh Krishna, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel, all grabbed three wickets each in the first innings. With them, Mohammed Siraj also managed to get one wicket.

For his spectacular bowling performance, Deepak Chahar was adjudged Man of the Match. Following this victory, the Men in Blue have claimed 1-0 lead in the three match series.
