With this win, England managed to draw the Test Series with India 2-2.

In the fifth (rescheduled) Test of India’s tour of England 2022, England beat India by seven wickets at the Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.

Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bowl first. Once again, James Anderson bowled his finest to pick five wickets upfront in the first inning. Matty Potts also claimed two wickets along with Stokes and Stuart Broad, who got one each and bowled out India on the second day for 416 runs.

Amongst Indian batters, except for Rishabh Pant (146) and Ravindra Jadeja (104), no one really contributed major, which could have helped India go past the 500 mark in the first inning.

Although the surface was batting friendly, English batsmen couldn’t capitalise on it, which led to an all-out on the third day itself. Jonny Bairstow (106) scored a magnificent century which helped England reach 284. Following the first innings, England trailed by 132 runs.

Captain Jasprit Bumrah bowled his best to take three wickets straight away in the first innings for India. Mohammed Shami managed to take two wickets and Shardul Thakur also grabbed one wicket. Towards the end of the inning, Mohammed Siraj scalped four wickets to finish England’s first inning.

In the second innings with the ball, the English skipper picked four wickets which totally ruined India’s chances to score big in the second inning. Potts once again took two wickets along with Broad. Anderson and Jack Leach registered one wicket each as well.

In the second innings with the bat, Indian batters looked confident as they got a crucial start following Shubman Gill‘s wicket. Cheteshwar Pujara (66) looked strong and balanced his inning well according to the needs. Along with him, Pant (57) once again showed his class and scored a half-century. India only managed to score 245 runs through which they got a lead of 377 runs.

England was dominated by India for three and a half days but showed no mercy while hunting down 378 runs in the second inning. Alex Lees (56) and Zak Crawly (46) gave a brilliant start to the England team. Following them, the former captain, Joe Root (142*) along with the in-form batsman, Bairstow (114*) struck individual centuries that took them over the victory line in the first session of the fifth day itself.

Bairstow was adjudged Man of the Match for his outstanding batting performance. With this win, England managed to draw the Test Series with India 2-2.
