India won the toss and asked Australia to bat first. The home team started well, with Usman Khawaja (21) and Marnus Labuschagne (12) playing through the new ball. Furthermore, Steve Smith (101) and Travis Head (152) were the match’s standouts, as both scored centuries. Head smashed 18 fours, while Smith hit 12. Both batters scored 241 runs for the fourth wicket stand. Later on, Alex Carey (70) continued his excellent run by scoring another fifty. The team’s first innings wrapped up with a score of 445/10.
Once again, Jasprit Bumrah was India’s top performer, taking a six-wicket haul. Mohammed Siraj claimed two wickets, while Akash Deep and Nitish Reddy each took one wicket.
A match marred by rain and bad light interruptions saw India lose focus on the game at times. India faced a tough challenge with the bat, losing wickets early in the innings. KL Rahul (84) was the top performer for India, scoring a half-century. Ravindra Jadeja (77) also impressed with a half-century, batting alongside the tailenders. Notably, Bumrah (10*) and Akash Deep (31) played crucial knocks, rescuing India from a potential follow-on situation.
Skipper Pat Cummins claimed a four-wicket haul, while Mitchell Starc took three wickets. Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, and Head each picked up one wicket.
On the final day of the Test, the Australians adopted an aggressive approach, aiming to score quickly and put India back into bat. However, the plan backfired as they lost consecutive wickets, finishing with just 89/7d. Carey (20*) and Cummins (22) were the top scorers.
Siraj and Akash Deep both claimed two wickets, but Bumrah once again managed to take three.
With 275 to chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rahul had a promising start, but the weather had the ultimate word, leading to the game being declared a draw.
With both sides finishing the Gabba Test 1-1, the series couldn’t be more exciting, with two major Test matches on the horizon. Notably, another win for India means that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will return to India.
