Rohit Sharma won the toss and asked the home team to field first. On the first day, there was some quality bowling, with Mitchell Starc claiming the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal off the very first ball. The left-arm pacer was in lethal form, taking six wickets. Additionally, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland contributed with two wickets each, helping to bowl India out for just 180 runs.
Notably, India’s best scorer was Nitish Reddy (42) and was followed by KL Rahul (37) and Shubman Gill (31). The visitors were in no control at any time of their outing.
Batting second, Nathan Mcsweeny (39) provided the Australians with a strong start, with Marnus Labuschagne (64) contributing from the other end. Travis Head (140) scored an incredible century, which featured 17 fours and four sixes. Alex Carey (15), Cummins (22) and Starc (18) all provided vital runs to help the team expand its lead. The unit got all out for 337 runs, with a lead of 157 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were brilliant for India as they scalped four wickets each. Nitish Reddy and Ravichandran Ashwin also took one wicket each.
Jaiswal (24), Gill (28), and Rishabh Pant (28) were the only players to score, while Reddy (42) remained India’s best scorer. The team was all out for 175, and the Australians needed only 19 runs to win.
Pat Cummins grabbed a fifer in the second innings, while Scott Boland took three wickets and Starc grabbed two wickets.
Whether it was chasing or merely a formality, Mcsweeney (10) and Khawaja (9) completed the job in just 20 deliveries.
With this win, Australia have leveled the series 1-1.
