India announces changes to the squad for tour of Australia

Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) announced changes to the squad for the upcoming long tour of Australia. The biggest takeaway from this announcement is that India will be without Virat Kohli after the first test as the Indian captain has been granted paternity leave.

It is a massive blow for the Indian team as Kohli has been one of the consistent performers for the team in test matches. He made vital contributions in India during their historic test match series win in Australia in 2018. He will leave the squad after the first test match in Adelaide.

Meanwhile, BCCI has finally provided an update on Rohit Sharma. The dashing opening batsman is set to be rested for limited-overs international games against Australia. He is expected to be fit for the four-match test series. Sharma was initially not included in any squad due to injury concerns, but since then he has played two games for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

Sanju Samson has been added to the ODI squad as a backup wicketkeeper option. Meanwhile, there will be a late call made on Wriddhiman Saha as he faces a race against time to be fit for the test series. Saha suffered a hamstring injury last week and missed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s two knockout games.

Ishant Sharma remains under observation as he continues to recover from a serious injury that he suffered during IPL. The team management will include him in the test squad if he passes fitness tests before the series. Kamlesh Nagarkotti will not travel with the squad after being selected as an additional bowler due to workload issues. Varun Chakravarthy will have to wait for his Indian debut as he pulls out of the squad due to injury. He has been replaced by T. Natarajan in the T20I squad.
