In the 10th match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, South Africa defeated India by three wickets at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.

Bowling first, SA did a good job of containing India. Chloe Tryon was the best bowler, as she took three wickets and just gave away 32 runs. Nonkululeko Mlaba and Marizanne Kapp also contributed with two wickets each. In the middle overs, the bowling team remained disciplined, taking advantage of India’s collapse and making sure the chase stayed doable.

Chasing 252, South Africa began effectively, with a captain’s knock from Laura Wolvaardt, who hit a disciplined 70 off 111 deliveries. Her innings created the groundwork for the run chase, even as wickets slumped around her. Her dismissal in the 36th over, with the score at 142, placed the lower middle order under pressure, but the batters remained composed. Despite losing half of their team before reaching 100, South Africa shown perseverance. Chloe Tryon (49) scored crucial runs in the middle overs, while Nadine de Klerk (84*) delivered a match-winning knock under pressure, demonstrating composure and power striking. The batter helped the away side to reach the finish line in the 49th over.

On a damp wicket, India did manage to score 251/10 in 49.5 overs. The innings was marred by a dearth of middle-order partnerships and frequent wickets. India lost five wickets for only 17 runs between overs 17 and 26, including skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues‘ golden duck, as the momentum drastically sank. Richa Ghosh put on a remarkable display, reviving India’s innings after being reduced to 102/6 with a scorching 94 off 77 balls. She and Sneh Rana (33) worked well together to push India over the 240-mark.

India’s spinners, particularly Sneh Rana and Kranti Gaud, maintained the pressure and took two wickets each, however, they were unable to defend the score on a batting-friendly pitch. Despite taking early wickets, India failed to break the important lower-order partnerships. Deepti Sharma and Shree Charani took one wicket each.

With this loss, India now remain third in the points table.

Scorecard:

India: 251/10, Overs 49.5, Richa Ghosh 94, Chloe Tryon 3/32

South Africa: 252/7, Overs 48.5, Nadine de Klerk 84*, Sneh Rana 2/47
