In the 35th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, India beat Bangladesh by 5 runs (D/L method) at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hassan asked India to bat first. The Men in Blue lost Rohit Sharma quite early but continued their innings finely courtesy of KL Rahul (50) and Virat Kohli (64). Both the batters scored 67 runs together for the second wicket partnership which helped India get through the middle overs. Kohli smashed eight fours and one six and took India to a score of 184/6 after the conclusion of the first innings. Towards the back end of the inning, Suryakumar Yadav (30) and Ravichandran Ashwin (13) contributed important runs to add to India’s score tally.
While chasing, Bangladesh started well, scoring boundaries all around the park. Liton Das (60) played an outstanding knock as he hammered a quick-fire half-century. A good momentum was lost as it started raining at the Adelaide Oval. After resuming the play, the new target for Bangladesh was 151 in 16 overs. The match went on till the final ball where seven runs were required. Bangladesh only managed to score a single and lost the match by five runs.
Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh bagged two wickets each in the second innings. Along with them, Mohammad Shami also picked one wicket.
In the first inning, Hasan Mahmud provided three wickets for the Bangla tigers. Captain Shakib also grabbed two wickets.
Virat Kohli was adjudged Man of the Match for his brilliant batting performance. With this win, India have placed one foot in the Semi-final stage with six points in the bank.
