The event will have a total of 45 matches. For the first time in their history, Australia will host the men’s edition. They previously hosted the women’s event in February-March 2020, with a record 86,174 spectators in attendance for the final match.
The tournament will feature 16 teams, with 12 of them qualifying for the Super 12 stages. Australia, Afghanistan, England, and New Zealand are currently assigned to Group 1, while India, South Africa, Pakistan, and Bangladesh are allocated to Group 2.
The Super 12 stages will kick off on October 22 with a blockbuster match between Australia and New Zealand. The most intriguing match of the edition is planned for October 23, when India will face their arch-rivals, Pakistan. The Indians will commence their World Cup campaign against their neighbours in Melbourne. On October 27, Rohit Sharma and company will face the Group A runner-up.
The ‘Men in Blue’ will then face South Africa and Bangladesh on October 30 and November 2, respectively. On November 6, they will play the winner of Group B in their final league game.
The qualifying matches will be held from October 16 to October 21. These matches will determine the four teams that will join the eight other teams that have already qualified for the event. The Australian team won the T20 World Cup in 2021, beating New Zealand by 8 wickets.
