The English football club, Hull City AFC have entered into a three-year partnership with Hytro, a leader in wearable Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) technology.

This collaboration aims to integrate Hytro’s innovative BFR devices into the football club’s training and recovery programs, optimising player performance and accelerating recovery times.

The BFR technology, which restricts blood flow to muscles to stimulate growth and repair, has gained popularity in sports for its ability to maximise muscle activation even at lower intensities. The East Yorkshire side’s partnership with Hytro will allow players to benefit from increased muscle activation, enhanced endurance, and faster recovery, all within a convenient and portable solution.

Dr Ronnie Banerjee, Club Doctor at Hull City, highlighted the unique origins of this partnership and said, “We have enjoyed watching the growth of the Hytro brand from Warren Bradley’s initial idea conceived here at Hull City. Matt Busby has used the product for several years, so to now formalise the three-year partnership between Hull City and Hytro gives us immense satisfaction and pride. To know this is where it all started, and that Hytro has now reached all levels of elite sport, as well as being used by the general public around the world and even into space, fills everyone at Hull City with enormous pride.

“The benefits of blood flow restriction (BFR) have gathered momentum in the last decade in both athletes and the general public populations. However, its uses were restricted by it not being easily portable and usable. Hytro provides the solution with wearable BFR that now provides easy recovery gains and post-muscle injury rehab. Hytro also continues to push boundaries in elite sport by conducting up-to-date research at various universities.”

Matt Busby, Head of Physical Performance at Hull City, added, “Hytro has been used at Hull City since its inception and integrated into the current programme. We use it to maximise recovery by using the garments immediately post-game. Hytro is also used on the subsequent days to further enhance the recovery process. The beauty of the product is that recovery can be achieved through both passive and active methods, meaning that regardless of where we play, or the travel modality used following away games, the garments can be used instantly to accelerate recovery. This is crucial in the Championship where the next game is only a matter of days away.

“In addition to the enhanced recovery achieved from the garments, we also use Hytro in both a rehab and strength development perspective to help players achieve individual goals and objectives. In rehab, Hytro is particularly useful to overload the body with minimal external load that is not always achievable during early-stage rehab.”

Dr Warren Bradley, Founder and CSO of Hytro, continued, “Having worked within the performance department of Hull City for four and a half seasons, it is an absolute pleasure to partner with the team once again, four years later, as founder of Hytro. I’m grateful for Andrew and Matt’s support right from the beginning of this journey, alongside Hull’s team doctor Ronnie, and the team have continued to support Hytro throughout every milestone of our journey. We would sit and discuss the concept of BFR-integrated wearables in the sports science office after training way before it was even a material reality, so to see this partnership come to life several years later is a real moment for reflection. This is one of my favourite partnerships to date, and I can’t wait to get things rolling this season.”

Richard Frost, Chief Marketing Officer at Hytro, added, “Hull City holds a special place in the heart of Hytro. It’s where our founder, Dr Warren Bradley, first began his sport science journey to what would become our passion – Blood Flow Restriction. Partnering with this club feels like coming full circle, a beautiful reminder of where it all started. We’re thrilled to support the athletes who represent the community where Warren’s dream took root. Hull City is more than just a football club to us; it’s part of our story, and we couldn’t be prouder to give back to the place that sparked it all.”

Hytro’s BFR devices are designed to be user-friendly and seamlessly integrate into athletes’ routines. The technology has gained significant traction in the sports industry due to its ability to accelerate muscle recovery, reduce injury risk, and enhance performance.

Hytro’s wearable BFR devices, designed for easy integration into athletic routines, are widely recognized for their effectiveness in enhancing performance, reducing injury risk, and supporting rapid recovery. The brand’s technology is used by over 150 elite sports teams worldwide, including those in the Premier League, NFL, NBA, NHL, and even the BWT Alpine F1 Team. Hytro’s research partnerships with NASA also explore BFR’s potential benefits for astronauts in space.

In addition to its partnership with Hytro, the Tigers have formed alliances with Ticketmaster, Safiport, and Sportsbet.io this year, further cementing their commitment to growth and innovation. This series of partnerships reflects the club’s ongoing dedication to leveraging advanced technology and strategic collaborations to elevate performance and achieve long-term success.
