The global brewing group, Heineken, has appointed Serena Williams as a global ambassador for its alcohol-free label Heineken 0.0, anchoring a new campaign that taps into the rapid global rise of padel and the growing demand for social, participation-led sport.

The multi-year agreement places Williams at the centre of a global platform designed to champion connection, balance, and active lifestyles. In contrast to traditional athlete endorsements rooted in elite performance, the campaign pivots toward everyday participation, positioning padel as an accessible, community-driven sport that aligns with Heineken 0.0’s lifestyle narrative.

The partnership launched in Miami through “Unexpected Doubles,” an activation that saw recreational players booking matches on the Playtomic platform, unexpectedly joined by Williams on court. The concept blends live experience with shareable content, reinforcing padel’s inclusive appeal while delivering organic fan engagement.

Serena Williams, Heineken® 0.0 Ambassador, said, “For me, it’s always about showing up as my best self. Partnering with Heineken® 0.0 reflects the kind of intentional choices I make every day; it’s a no-alcohol option that still lets me stay active, keep moving, and connect with new people. Whether I’m on the padel court or off, I love that I don’t have to compromise.”

Nabil Nasser, Global Head of Heineken® Brand, added, “At Heineken®, we believe the most rewarding moments happen when people stay active, social, and open to new connections, without having to compromise. Serena represents that mindset perfectly. Her iconic presence, her confidence, and her love of padel reflect everything Heineken® 0.0 stands for: a confident choice for people who want to stay in the game and fully enjoy the social moments around it. Together, padel becomes a natural way to bring people together, on court and beyond. Serena stepping in as the first iconic ‘Unexpected Doubles’ teammate has everyone excited, especially padel players using Open Match by Heineken® 0.0.”

Alongside the campaign, Heineken has introduced “Open Match by Heineken 0.0,” a Playtomic-integrated feature that enables users to find playing partners while unlocking curated brand experiences, including surprise appearances and community-led activations.

Padel’s continued growth, driven by its doubles format and low barrier to entry, has attracted increasing commercial interest. For Heineken, the move signals a broader shift toward embedding its brand within participation ecosystems rather than relying solely on traditional sponsorship models, as it looks to position Heineken 0.0 at the centre of modern social sport culture.
