April 24, 1973, was more than simply a date; it marked the beginning of a legend.
On this day, the cricketing world welcomed Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, a youngster who would go on to become the ‘God of Cricket’ and rewrite the game’s vocabulary.
Celebrating his 52nd birthday today, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar is a name that continues to inspire people all across the world, not only in sports but in many aspects of life. Over the years, whether or not someone follows the sport, the chant ‘Sachin Sachin..’ has become something that any sports fan can relate to.
ROAD TO GREATNESS:
At the age of 16, a young man with curly hair, a calm demeanour, and unwavering focus made his international cricket debut against a tough Pakistan pace attack on November 15, 1989. Even then, Sachin showed an uncommon quality: he was not frightened of legends. He was prepared to become one.
He toured Australia, took on the world’s greatest bowlers, and later also became the youngest Indian to play county cricket in 1992. Then came the 1996 World Cup, and the world not only watched but dreaded him. Bowlers had restless nights.
Fans had faith in their eyes. Sachin didn’t stop there; he was just starting.
During this period, SRT was not simply scoring runs. He was dealing with billions of dollars in expectations. In Sharjah in 1998, ‘Desert Storm’ Sachin smashed Australia in back-to-back innings, which was forever etched in history. Every Indian family had just started to own a television, and Sachin was the name that was starting to get included in every prayer.
His century against Kenya in 1999, following his father’s death midway through the World Cup, demonstrated his strength outside of sport.

Despite injuries, form slumps, and criticism, the Master Blaster never backed down. He adapted. He developed. He became the first batter to achieve a double century in an ODI in 2010, at the age of 37.
Finally, in 2011 in Mumbai, he lifted the trophy he had coveted since childhood: the World Cup, rounding up a complete cricketing circle.

After playing across decades, the legend holds virtually every key batting record, including the most international runs of 34,357 across formats, with 15,921 runs in Tests, 18,426 in ODIs, and 10 in only one T20I game.
STEPPING ON COMMERCIAL FIELD:
Tendulkar’s commercial drive is as impressive as his renowned straight drive on the pitch. SRT was the anomaly before endorsement deals became commonplace. He became the face of Indian advertising in the 1990s, a time when cricket players were not considered marketable celebrities.
In 1995, Sachin Tendulkar inked an INR 31.5 crore agreement with WorldTel, facilitated by celebrity manager Mark Mascarenhas. It was the first of its kind: a five-year deal that propelled Sachin to commercial superstardom and changed the way athletes were regarded in India.
Mark also introduced his friend to the famed MRF agreement. Mark was aware of Sachin’s preferences and never tried to persuade him to get into hazardous deals. Following Mark’s unexpected death, many sports agents approached Sachin, but the celebrated batter remained with WorldTel and was eventually represented by Vinod Naidu.
BATTING ON PRINCIPLES:
The Mumbai-based cricketer has been more than a cricket superstar for around three decades; he has also served as a role model for generations. While his batting prowess enthralled the globe, it was his steadfast values off the pitch that truly distinguished him and gave him the prestigious name of ‘God of Cricket.’
Sachin remained steadfast in an age where superstars pursue sponsorships at any cost, even ethics. He turned down blank-cheque proposals from tobacco corporations, refusing to promote items that may endanger public health. In 2010, he turned down an INR 20 crore agreement from United Breweries and declined to participate in Kingfisher’s ‘Oo La La La Le O’ commercial campaign during the IPL.
His judgements were not simply economic decisions; they were declarations of principle.
Sachin, a Bharat Ratna awardee, has constantly advocated for healthy living, education, and child care. His decisions demonstrate a greater dedication to doing the right thing, not only for his own image but also for the millions of others who look up to him.
NET WORTH:
Sachin Tendulkar has an estimated net worth of approximately INR 1,450 crore, making him the world’s richest cricketer. His net worth is derived from a powerful combination of endorsement deals, smart investments, Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts, and a decades-long relationship with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
In 2007, he bought a luxury property on Perry Road in Mumbai for INR 39 crore. The property was acquired for INR 75 crore and renovated with INR 25 crore in interior additions, bringing the total value to roughly INR 100 crore.
Sachin, a serious automotive lover, owns a customised BMW i8 (initially INR 2.62 crore, now valued at approximately INR 4 crore) and the rare BMW M5 “30 Jahre MS” Limited Edition (worth INR 1.5 crore). His financial success shows not just his cricketing prowess, but also his adept brand management and integrity-driven career.

The God also has an outstanding endorsement portfolio that few sportsmen across the world can match. Throughout his 24-year cricket career and beyond, Sachin collaborated with a number of internationally recognised brands, which include the following:
