Happy Birthday Rohit Sharma: A look at Indian captain’s brand endorsements, net worth and investments

Rohit has been one of the biggest names in the cricket fraternity for the past decade, he hasn't just maintained his stature on-field but off-field as well, in the commercial arena.

One of the greatest batters of all time and undoubtedly the most prolific opener of modern-day cricket, Rohit Sharma turned 36 today i.e. Sunday, April 30.

The Indian captain made his international debut in June 2007 against Ireland under the captaincy of the current coach of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid. In the following year, the Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper also made his T20I debut in the inaugural ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Then the 20-year-old Rohit gathered everyone’s attention by scoring a scintillating half-century against South Africa and a quick-fire of 30 off 17 balls against Pakistan in the final.

After making his debut in 2007, the star Indian batter couldn’t cement his position in the Indian team till 2013. In January 2013, the Mumbai batter was asked to open for the first time against England in Mohali and scored 83 off 93 and things started turning for good in white-ball cricket for him since then. He also made his Test debut in the same year, he started his red ball journey well but couldn’t live up to his name by playing in the middle order. Just like his limited overs cricket, he excelled in the red ball cricket when he was asked to open the innings. Since becoming an opener in the Test format, the 36-year-old has been scoring at a good rate.

He was bought by MI ahead of the 2011 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and was made captain mid-season in 2013. Between 2013-2020, under Rohit’s captaincy, the IPL franchise owned by Mukesh Ambani managed to win five titles along with the Champions League 2013.

In ODIs, the Mumbaikar scored 9825 runs, in the shortest and longest format of the game, he gathered 3853 and 3379 runs, respectively, so far. Rohit is the only cricketer in the world to have three double centuries in ODIs and also owns the highest individual score in limited overs cricket with 264. The opener’s penchant for hitting sixes has gained him the second spot in the list of most sixes by a player in international cricket across all formats. The Nagpur-born cricketer has smashed 526 sixes so far and is likely to cross Chris Gayle, who is sitting at the top with 553 sixes. Rohit is also the only cricketer in the world to score five centuries in a single ODI World Cup.
