Gujarat becomes host venue for 36th National Games 2022

The competition will feature more than 7,000 professional athletes from the country participating in various sports categories.

The Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that the state will be the hosting venue for the 36th National Games 2022. This will be the state’s first opportunity to host the prestigious competition, which is set to take place between September 27 and October 10, 2022.

The National Games will feature around 34 sports categories and be held across six cities in Gujarat. The multi-sports event will be held in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Bhavnagar.

The competition will feature more than 7,000 professional athletes from the country, participating in sports such as athletics, hockey, football, volleyball, lawn tennis, table tennis, judo, khushti, kabaddi, kho-kho, mallakhambha, and yogansana.

In accordance with the Olympic movement, Gujarat will improve and maximise the use of its current infrastructure to host these games. As a result, the infrastructure built and improved will continue to be used on a regular basis by the state’s athletes.

Bhupendra Patel, CM Gujarat said, “I am thankful to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for immediately accepting Gujarat’s proposal (to conduct National Games in the State). Gujarat will leave no stone unturned in making this event the best.”

Minister of State for Sports, Harsh Sanghvi said, “Gujarat is known for setting records and benchmarks. With the 36th National Games, Gujarat will set yet another record to host the event within the limited time of three months, with more than 34 sports disciplines in six cities across the state.”
