Formula E, the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, has inked a multi-year deal with Google Cloud, a suite of cloud computing services.

As per the deal, Google Cloud will serve as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship’s “principal artificial intelligence partner”.

The new arrangement builds on a previous cooperation formed in January 2025. According to the two organisations, the new deal would see Formula E incorporate even more of Google’s cloud and AI technology, including Gemini models.

Formula E plans to employ Google’s capabilities to boost its organisation’s ‘agility and efficiency’, including extensive AI modelling of Formula E’s back office and the construction of race and event digital twins. This is intended to decrease the requirement for “on-site reconnaissance and heavy equipment transport”, hence lowering the operating carbon footprint.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, said, “Our expanded partnership with Google Cloud is a true game-changer for Formula E and for motorsport as a whole. We are already pushing the boundaries of technology in sport, and this Principal Partnership confirms our vision. The integration of Google Cloud’s AI capabilities will unlock a new dimension of real-time performance optimization and strategic decision-making, both for the Championship and for our global broadcast audience. This collaboration will redefine how fans experience our races and set a new benchmark for technology integration in sport worldwide.”

President of Google Cloud EMEA, Tara Brady, commented, “Formula E is a hub of innovation, where milliseconds can define success. This expanded partnership is a testament to the power of Google Cloud’s AI and data analytics, showing how our technology can deliver a competitive advantage in the most demanding scenarios.”

Formula E has already chosen Google Cloud as its official cloud technology services partner and official cloud security partner after migrating its data to the GCP platform.

Motor racing, particularly Formula E and Formula 1, is very data-intensive, thereby many race teams have strong relationships with cloud providers. Earlier this month, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 chose Microsoft as its cloud partner. Oracle Red Bull Racing makes use of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, and in 2025, Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team chose CoreWeave as its AI partner. While many workloads are handled in the cloud, all of the teams have on-premises data centres that hold their “secret” supercomputers, which are utilised for CFD-based simulations of automotive designs.
