Italy and Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini is set to sign another contract with the club till 2022 that keeps him for another year. The veteran centre-back impressed everyone with his performances at Euro 2020 and was the captain of the Italian side that defeated England 3-2 on penalties in the finals of the competition at Wembley Stadium.
It is also reported that the player was planning on leaving Juventus at the end of this season and was approached by MLS clubs but the 36-year-old changed his mind after the club appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new coach. Allegri coached the club from 2014-2019 and the team had won numerous accolades under him. It is also reported that the manager had a huge role in persuading the player to stay.
Juventus signed Chiellini in 2005 for €4.3 million and has helped his side to win numerous trophies that include 9 Serie A titles, 5 Coppa Italia and 5 Supercoppa Italiana. The player has made over 400 appearances for the club.
On the other hand, Juventus had a pretty tough season under coach Andrea Pirlo as they failed to defend their Serie A title and were dethroned by Inter Milan after 9 years. They finished 4th this season with 78 points and they somehow managed to claim the Champions League spot for next season. Pirlo was sacked by the club at the end of the season.
Chiellini has proved to be one of the best centre-backs in the world since the last decade and keeping him at Turin under a coach who has already worked with him is surely going to be a huge advantage for the team. Bianconeri would expect a total turnaround after a woeful 2020-21 season.
