The French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) and French Paralympic and Sports Committee (CPSF) have extended their kit supply agreement with the sportswear firm, Le Coq Sportif, notwithstanding the brand’s financial issues.
Le Coq Sportif, which has provided the French Olympic and Paralympic teams since 2021, has received a new contract for 2025 and 2026 after being chosen in a tender procedure.
The new deal will consist of nine contests, including the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games in Milan-Cortina.
Other tournaments include the 2025 World Games in China, the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Italy, and the 2026 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.
The French Olympic Committee mentioned, “The offer proposed by Le Coq Sportif is part of an unprecedented timeframe with the creation of a future Organising Committee for the 2030 Winter Games and where continuity with the Olympiad that has just ended is a key factor for success, while taking into account the situation of the selected equipment supplier.”
The French Alps will host the Winter Olympics in 2030, as confirmed by recent announcements, with the required government assurances having now been given.
Despite needing to give Le Coq Sportif urgent funds to meet its equipment arrangement for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the CNOSF and CPSF have decided to extend their relationship with the business.
This came after a 2023 loan of €10 million ($10.8 million) from the French government. The brand’s economic issues have been worse in recent years, mainly due to its inability to establish a presence in the footwear market. As a result, its revenue fell by €20 million in the 2023 fiscal year.
In fact, the FFR regulatory body of the French rugby union launched a lawsuit against its previous uniform maker, Le Coq Sportif, alleging unpaid due. To recover the €5.3 million it believes it is due, the FFR filed for a compulsory liquidation order against the French business.
