FreeSports acquires rights for Lanka Premier League

The channel has taken over from the pay-television broadcaster Sky.

The United Kingdom’s free to air channel, FreeSports has bagged the exclusive rights of the second season of the Lanka Premier League. The channel has acquired rights to all the 24 matches that are going to be played.

The channel has taken over from the pay-television broadcaster Sky who had rights for the previous season of the tournament. The international rights for the Lanka Premier League are distributed by the Marron Media boutique agency.

Marron Media has a contract with the Dubai-based sports marketing agency, the Innovative Production Group, which had acquired the commercial and organisation rights last year for the Lanka Premier League. This contract was signed with Sri Lanka Cricket for five years.

The Lanka Premier League also made a deal with Daraz for the digital streaming rights for this season. Daraz is also an associate sponsor for the 2021 edition of the tournament. The firm mentioned the launch of Daraz Live in Sri Lanka in September this year as a “Livestream featuring your favourite products, so you can have a closer look at them before making a purchase”.

The second season of the Lanka Premier League will commence from December 5 with the defending champions Jaffna Kings taking on Galle Gladiators.
