The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is deepening its focus on the audio experience of motorsport through a new collaboration with Sennheiser, bringing together electric racing and professional audio technology as the championship looks to create a more immersive experience for fans.
The partnership will explore how advanced audio technologies can enhance the way Formula E is experienced across live events, broadcast and digital platforms. At the centre of the collaboration is Sennheiser’s AMBEO immersive audio ecosystem, with the two organisations examining new approaches to capturing and delivering the distinctive sound of electric racing.
Dan Cherowbrier, CTO, Formula E said, “Innovation and technology are at the core of Formula E, and Sennheiser is the perfect partner to help us redefine the audio landscape of our championship. Their professional audio technologies and workflows, particularly the AMBEO immersive ecosystem, provide a uniquely dynamic setting to explore the future of sound in racing. This collaboration is a vital proof point in how we connect real-world audio innovation with practical application, bringing fans closer to the action through natural, three-dimensional sound.”
Andreas Sennheiser, CEO, Sennheiser Group added, “Formula E represents exactly the kind of environment where meaningful innovation happens. At Sennheiser, we are driven by the ambition to bring advanced audio technologies into real-world applications, and this collaboration gives us an exciting opportunity to rethink the role sound can play in electric racing. Great visuals deserve equally compelling sound, and we see real potential to define the sport’s unique acoustic character through dynamic in-car and trackside soundscapes. Ultimately, this partnership is about learning, exploring and helping to shape the future of how live sport is experienced.”
The collaboration arrives as Formula E prepares to close the GEN3 era at the London E-Prix before entering its next technological chapter with GEN4. The new-generation cars are expected to push performance beyond 335km/h and deliver up to 600kW in ATTACK MODE, creating further opportunities to evolve the championship’s sonic identity.
Formula E has previously developed a dedicated sonic identity built around the sound of its GEN3 cars, recognising that audio is an increasingly important component of how electric motorsport is consumed.
The timing also adds significance to the collaboration, with the 2025-26 championship heading to London for its season-ending double-header. With nine drivers still mathematically in contention for the title and two races remaining, the ExCeL London circuit will provide the backdrop for the final chapter of the GEN3 era.
For Formula E and Sennheiser, the objective extends beyond simply improving race audio. It is about defining what electric racing should sound and feel like as the sport enters its next generation.
