FNB Namibia, the financial services group, has strengthened its long-running commitment to women’s football by investing N$9.3 million into the Namibia Women’s Super League. The funding is channelled through the Namibia Football Association and is intended to stabilise, professionalise, and grow the country’s top-tier women’s competition over the next three seasons.
The agreement covers the 2025 to 2027 cycle and is designed to reinforce multiple operational areas across the league. Clubs will receive support for player welfare, travel, equipment, training, and matchday delivery, while additional resources are earmarked for marketing and league visibility. A dedicated portion of the investment will bolster governance and administrative systems within the Namibia Football Association to strengthen professional standards.
The Women’s Super League has faced persistent financial and operational pressures in recent years, often placing its continuity at risk. FNB Namibia’s renewed backing signals long-term confidence in the league’s potential as a development platform for elite female footballers and as a core pipeline for the Brave Gladiators, Namibia’s women’s national team.
Speaking at the agreement signing, newly appointed Retail CEO, Mbo Luvindao, highlighted the significance of the sponsorship and said, “FNB’s relationship with the Women’s Super League is rooted in belief; believe that sports can transform lives, can unite communities and create opportunities where they were non-existent. Over the years, the FNB has stood alongside women athletes through every challenge and every triumph. We have seen their grind, their growth, and greatness, and today we are choosing to implify that greatness through the renewal of the WSL sponsorship.
NFA Interim General Secretary, Cassius Moetie, added, “We are thrilled to be gathered here today to officially launch the FNB Women’s Super League (WSL)! This moment marks a significant milestone in the journey of women’s football in Namibia. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to FNB for their commitment to sponsoring the top-tier Women’s Super League for the next three football seasons. Your investment of N$3-million is a testament to your dedication to growing women’s football in Namibia. These reports are critical and important for transparency, accountability, governance, compliance, and ethical usage of sponsors’ money. The reason why this is important for us at NFA is simply to instil public and sponsors’ confidence and trust in our financial management.”
The investment from FNB Namibia provides essential stability for clubs preparing for the upcoming seasons, with Beauties FC, Girls & Goals, Ongos Ladies and Namib Daughters among the teams set to benefit from more predictable resourcing and operational clarity. The NFA is also working to strengthen league management and ensure smoother delivery for the expanded cycle.
The move aligns with a broader trend across African football, where leading banks have stepped forward to support women’s competitions in South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria as federations work to professionalise the women’s game.
The new Women’s Super League season will begin once the Namibia Football Association confirms fixtures, ushering in a more secure and ambitious era for women’s football in the country.
