Florentino Perez has been re-elected unanimously as Real Madrid president, extending his term at the club for another four years.
The club announced the development after Pérez called for presidential elections earlier this month, giving potential candidates a 10-day deadline to submit their applications. No challenges developed, allowing Perez to keep his job easily.
The 77-year-old construction entrepreneur and former politician has led Real Madrid twice: first from 2000 to 2006, and now since 2009. Pérez has presided over one of the club’s strongest eras, characterised by domestic and European victories, as well as the start of the enormous stadium restoration project.
The LALIGA team’s president is subject to stringent qualifying requirements, which few can fulfil. Candidates are required to be club members for at least 20 years and give a bank guarantee of at least 15% of the club’s budget, guaranteed by their personal wealth. These conditions are likely to explain Pérez’s lack of opposition since returning to the job in 2009.
Pérez ran uncontested in the elections of 2013, 2017, 2021, and 2025. Perez’s unopposed re-election cements his status as one of the most significant characters in Real Madrid’s illustrious history. His ongoing leadership maintains the club’s stability as it faces the difficulties of modern football, both on and off the pitch. At 77, Pérez is still a crucial player, leading the club with the vision that has made Real Madrid associated with success and global reputation.
