FC Barcelona hits La Liga salary limit; unable to sign new players

The club is looking to reduce the wage bill by a whopping €200 million, suggesting there are several stars that Barcelona are looking to remove.

FC Barcelona is undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the world, with elite players in their squad like Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and with new players arriving like Sergio Aguero, Memphis Depay and Eric Garcia. But Barcelona cannot register their new signings in La Liga as they have hit the salary limit of La Liga.

Barcelona have been told to cut their wage bill by €200,000 by the Spanish league board. The club’s players are being pushed to the exit both willingly and unwillingly with Junior Firpo joining Leeds United this will help the club cut back on their expenses by £13million.

With Miralem Pjanic, Phillipe Coutinho also added to the transfer list, the transfers should help the club in reducing the wage bill and adhere to the guidelines given by La Liga.

The cost-cutting is said to be happening so that Messi’s contract can be extended at the Nou Camp, Messi who ran out of his contract in July is the main focus for the Spanish side.

Reports suggest that FC Barcelona $1.5 billion in debt and this has made negotiating for contracts really difficult for the Spanish side. With them finishing third in the league, it is vital that they register their new signings to bolster any chances of contending for the title. Messi reportedly wants to sign a contract extension but financial constraints prevent Barcelona to make a considerable offer for the Argentine legend.
