Extreme H, the world’s first hydrogen-powered off-road racing series, has announced a new partnership with the Japan-based tyre and rim manufacturing company, Yokohama Rubber.

As per the deal, the global tyre manufacturer has been named as Extreme H’s official tyre partner, ahead of its first ever event next month in Saudi Arabia.

Yokohama will provide a prototype tire based on its GEOLANDAR X-AT all-terrain tire, which has been built to endure some of the world’s most extreme environments and contains 38% renewable and recycled raw materials.

The FIA Extreme H World Cup is an extension of the award-winning Extreme E Championship. With a common dedication to creativity, performance, and sustainability, Yokohama’s tyre technical knowledge will be critical in facilitating the championship’s transition to hydrogen-powered racing.

Ali Russell, Managing Director of Extreme H, said, “We are delighted to welcome Yokohama to the Extreme H family. As we break new ground in hydrogen motorsport, having a tyre partner with a proven track record of high performance and sustainability is critical. Yokohama’s innovation and global reputation make them an ideal collaborator as we push the boundaries of what’s possible – both on and off the track.”

Takayoshi Omae, Associate Officer, Acting Head of Consumer Tire Product & Marketing Planning Division of Yokohama Rubber, said, “We are honored to partner with Extreme H at this landmark moment in motorsport history. For this world’s first hydrogen racing event, we will supply a prototype of our GEOLANDAR X-AT. The prototype also features renewable and recycled raw materials. We see participation in Extreme H as part of our efforts to maximize the sales ratio of high-value-added products in our consumer tire lineup and to contribute to the realization of a more sustainable world through our cutting-edge technologies and high-performance products.”

The collaboration builds on Yokohama’s motorsport tradition, combining high-performance innovation with a bold sustainability strategy. With Extreme H planned to begin racing later in 2025, this cooperation is a significant step towards bringing zero-emission, high-impact sport to life.

Extreme H will act as a hydrogen innovation testbed in racing, with the goal of inspiring widespread adoption of hydrogen solutions in the mobility, energy, and transportation sectors.
