Everything you need to know about Asia Cup 2022

After 2016, the competition will be featured in the T20 format for the second time.

One of the most anticipated tournaments of the year, the Asia Cup 2022 is scheduled to begin tomorrow i.e. August 27 with the first match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. The most dominant team in the tournament’s history, India will begin their title defence on Sunday, August 28, against arch-rivals Pakistan.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will look to retain the trophy and win a record-extending eighth piece of silverware.

The Asia Cup 2022 will be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The forthcoming edition of the cricket event was first meant to take place in Sri Lanka, but due to the island nation’s economic downturn and social disorder, it was moved to the middle east.

The Asia Cup, which began in 1984, also held its inaugural tournament in the UAE. India not only won the first edition but also won it a further six times. Afghanistan, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh, on the other hand, are yet to win it.

After 2016, the competition will be featured in the T20 format for the second time. The previous edition, which was held in 2018, was played in the ODI format.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4 stage. Following that, the winning teams from the Super 4 phase will eventually compete in the final on September 11.
