The oldest and most widely regarded tennis tournament in the world, Wimbledon Championships, known simply as Wimbledon, is all set to commence its 2025 edition on June 30 and will run until July 13, 2025.
This is the 138th edition of the competition, which includes singles, doubles, mixed doubles, wheelchair, and junior divisions. For the first time in its 147-year existence, human line judges will be replaced with Live Electronic Line Calling (Hawk-Eye) throughout all courts in 2025 to improve accuracy.
The event has a record £53.5 million prize pool, with each singles champion scheduled to collect £3 million, an 11.1% increase from 2024.
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz is the clear favourite at Wimbledon, looking for his third consecutive win. With an amazing 18-match winning run that includes triumphs at Rome, Roland Garros, and Queen’s, he is regarded as the gold standard for grass-court supremacy. Alcaraz had a good draw, avoiding strong contenders like Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Jack Draper until the finals.
The women’s draw is probably the most unexpected in recent memory. Barbora Krejčíková will defend her 2024 championship against Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Iga Świątek. Sabalenka tops the standings and maintains her momentum after a painful loss to Gauff in Paris, but Gauff puts her own Grand Slam credentials into the equation.
