The 13th edition of the pinacle women’s cricketing event, ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 is all set to begin tomorrow, September 30, with India taking on Sri Lanka in Guwahati.
The competition, which will run until November 2, involves eight teams that will fight in a single round-robin style. Unlike prior events, the ICC Women’s World Cup does not have different groups. Instead, the top four teams from the table will progress to the semifinals. The highest-ranked team from the group stage will square off with the fourth-ranked team, whereas the second- and third-ranked teams will face off, with the two winners advancing to the title decider on November 2.
Australia is the most successful team in the history of the Women’s World Cup, having won the storied trophy seven times, with archrival England close behind with four titles. The only other side to have enjoyed success in the event is New Zealand, which won in 2000, while Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka are all looking for their first Women’s World Cup championship.
Four stadiums in India will host games, including ACA Stadium in Guwahati, Holkar Stadium in Indore, ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is the only venue in Sri Lanka that will be utilised during the tournament, and it is competing to host the final against DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
The group stage will have 28 matches, with all starting at 3 PM IST except for the match between England and New Zealand on October 26, which will start earlier at 11 AM IST.
The first semi-final will take place on October 29 in Guwahati or Colombo, followed by the second semi-final on October 30 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. On November 2, Navi Mumbai or Colombo is scheduled to host the competition’s final.
