Roland Garros 2025, the 129th French Open, will be held from May 25 to June 8 in Paris, with qualifications already commenced on May 19. This year’s Roland Garros Stadium competition will see Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Świątek defend their crowns, ushering in a new era.

This will be the 100th year since the French Open became a Grand Slam event, taking place from May 25 to June 8, 2025. It will be the first Roland Garros event without the legendary Rafael Nadal. Nadal has changed the face of clay-court tennis in Paris. He has won a record 14 Roland Garros championships. With seven French Open titles, American great Chris Evert is the most accomplished female singles athlete. In doubles, Roy Emerson (6) and Martina Navratilova (7) have the most French Open titles.

The French Open, often known as Roland Garros, is the second Grand Slam tournament on the tennis calendar. It is held annually on the outdoor clay courts at the Stade Roland Garros. The main court, Court Philippe Chatrier, is widely recognised as one of the most historic tennis arenas in the world. The French Tennis Federation organises the competition, which usually begins in late May.

Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka are the top seeds, and with a total prize fund of €56.35 million, the tournament guarantees large stakes and top-tier tennis.

There aren’t many high-profile contests before Round 3. Carlos Alcaraz might face Stefanos Tsitsipas as early as the fourth round, although he could also face American Ben Shelton at that stage. Novak Djokovic will begin his 2025 French Open against American Mackenzie McDonald. If Djokovic, who enters the tournament ranked sixth, advances to the third round, he might face No. 27 Denis Shapovalov.

The women’s side may bring greater excitement in the early stages. Right away, No. 10 Paula Badosa will play Naomi Osaka in a thrilling first-round encounter. Elena Rybakina and Belinda Bencic will also face off in Round One.

Poland’s Iga Swiatek may face a difficult path in the tournament. If she can go past Rebecca Sramkova in Round 1, No. 5 Swiatek might face Emma Raducanu in the second round. In the first round, women’s number one Aryna Sabalenka will face Kamilla Rakhimova. Coco Gauff, the women’s No. 2, will face Olivia Gadecki in the opening round.

Where to watch:

The French Open 2025 will be aired on Sony Sports Network, along with the network’s OTT platform, SonyLIV. Furthermore, the competition will also air on FanCode, India’s leading digital sports platform.
