The much-awaited Season 12 of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is set to begin tonight, August 29, 2025, with matches continuing until October 23, 2025.
The season will begin in Visakhapatnam, where Telugu Titans will play Tamil Thalaivas, followed by a match between Bengaluru Bulls and Puneri Paltan. PKL returns to Vizag after a seven-year absence, signifying a sentimental return to one of its original strongholds.
This season will be contested in four cities: Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, Chennai, and Delhi. These regional centres were designed to increase fan participation and broaden the sport’s geographical reach. The league will use a double round-robin system, with 12 teams playing 18 matches each, for an overall 108 league games.
One of the most significant adjustments this season is the playoff structure and scoring system. Now, the top eight clubs will advance to the playoffs, leaving more potential for competitive mid-table fights. Furthermore, Golden Raid shootouts will settle deadlocked matches in both the league and knockout phases, removing the chance of a draw. The scoring system has also been streamlined, with two points for a victory and zero for a defeat, and no bonus points.
The PKL 2025 auction, conducted in Mumbai on May 31 and June 1, revealed considerable surprises. Mohammadreza Shadloui was the most expensive player, acquired by Gujarat Giants for INR 2.23 crore. On the other hand, star raider Pardeep Narwal, commonly known as the “Dubki King,” went unsold, which surprised fans throughout the country.
Leadership roles have also shifted inside teams. Nitin Rawal was chosen captain of Jaipur Pink Panthers, with Reza Mirbagheri serving as vice captain, under coach Narender Redhu’s guidance. UP Yoddhas named Sumit Sangwan captain. Gujarat Giants, currently led by Shadloui, are full of optimism ahead of the season.
PKL 2025 is set to offer a high-octane combination of new talent, strategic shifts, and fierce rivalry. With additional matches, revised regulations, and extended playoffs, fans can expect a season full of surprises, and action-packed kabaddi like never before.
