The Premier League (PL) 2026-27 season is about to begin, with 20 teams gearing up for another season of championship races, European qualifying challenges, and relegation clashes.
The new season begins on August 21 with reigning champions Arsenal against newly promoted Coventry City at Emirates Stadium. The remaining opening-round matchups will be played over the weekend.
Three newly promoted clubs will compete in the 2026-27 season: Coventry City, Ipswich Town, and Hull City. They take the place of Burnley, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and West Ham United, who were demoted.
Coventry return to the top division after a 25-year hiatus, while Ipswich return immediately after relegation in 2024-25. Hull City will also return to the Premier League, having been promoted from the Championship.
The fixture includes the regular 380 matches split across 33 weekends and five midweek rounds. The new campaign also includes considerable improvements to the dugouts. Among the notable occurrences is Xabi Alonso’s move to Chelsea, while Roberto De Zerbi begins his first full season at Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League has also announced eight management changes ahead of the campaign.
The FIFA World Cup has brought another element of curiosity to the next season. Many of the Premier League’s most prominent players represented their country in the tournament and will now return to domestic football. With international talents like Bukayo Saka and Erling Haaland set to highlight the season, the post-World Cup transition will be eagerly monitored.
A Season of Major Commercial Interest
For advertisers and business partners, the PL continues to be one of the largest sports assets in the world. Every season is a significant platform for brands and media firms given its worldwide viewership and concentration of top teams and players. As a result, the 2026–2027 season brings with it stories that go beyond the pitch, from new managers and title aspirations to the business prospects brought about by another season of the most lucrative domestic football league in the world.
The stage is set for another 380-match Premier League season with the schedule decided and clubs finishing their preparations.
