Esports World Cup affirms global coverage with WBD’s multi-platform pact

This multi-platform deal brings extensive coverage of the EWC to a wider audience across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East through some of WBD's biggest platforms.

The Esports World Cup (EWC), the world’s premier esports tournament series, has partnered with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), a global media and entertainment giant.

This multi-platform deal brings extensive coverage of the EWC to a wider audience across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East through some of WBD’s biggest platforms.

This partnership is a strategic move for both parties. The EWC leverages WBD’s vast reach and expertise in sports broadcasting, particularly through Eurosport and CNN, to elevate the esports viewing experience for mainstream audiences. This includes live streaming on Max and Discovery+ to further expand accessibility.

Commenting on the association, Mike Rich, Head of Warner Bros. Discovery, Sports & Lifestyle International Brand Partnerships, said, “Esports World Cup is a competition where sport meets entertainment which aligns neatly with Warner Bros. Discovery’s ambition for our streaming services to become the premier sports and entertainment destination for consumers.

“With the popularity of esports continuing to grow, partnering with the Esports World Cup affords Warner Bros. Discovery a unique opportunity to reach new audiences and celebrate its fandom.”

Ralf Reichert, CEO Esports World Cup Foundation, added, “We are thrilled to partner with Warner Bros. to bring the excitement and drama of the Esports World Cup to an even broader global audience. This collaboration allows us to leverage their extensive network and expertise across Eurosport, CNN, and other platforms to create amazing content and reach new fans in ways we never could before. We’re confident that this partnership will not only elevate the visibility of the Esports World Cup but also reignite passion for competitive gaming worldwide.”

The partnership promises a comprehensive EWC viewing experience. Fans can expect dedicated shows analyzing the competition, engaging social media content, and a dedicated section on the Eurosport website. This ensures in-depth coverage of all major storylines and events throughout the eight-week tournament.

Warner Bros. Discovery is a renowned entity in the world of sports broadcasting. It encompasses a diverse portfolio of sports brands and channels, including the renowned Eurosport in Europe, the recently launched TNT Sports in the United States, and the streaming platform Max.

The Esports World Cup is the pinnacle of international esports tournaments, featuring competitions in 22 of the most popular online games like League of Legends, Overwatch, and Fortnite. This year’s edition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, promises to be the biggest and best yet, transforming the city into a global hub for esports enthusiasts. Held within Boulevard City, elite esports teams will battle for a share of a record-breaking $60 million prize pool, the largest in esports history.
