Erling Haaland likely to be most expensive player in summer window

Erling Braut Haaland is set to be the most coveted player in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Norwegian striker has been scoring goals for fun at Borussia Dortmund across all competitions. Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool have showed interest in siging Haaland in summer.

The summer transfer window is three months away, but all signs point towards a market that will be dominated by Haaland. Kylian Mbappe is another player that could be on the market, but the French forward is expected to sign new deal at Pari-Saint Germain.

Haaland’s contract with Borussia Dortmund doesn’t expire until 2024, but he has £66m release clause in this deal that can be activated in 2022. Since the release clause yet to get active, Dortmund is likely to demand a hefty price this summer. If the German club fails to qualify for next season’s Champions League, then they will be forced to sell Haaland as the player would like to play at the top level.

While talking to Sky Germany, Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick refused to rule out signing Haaland in the future. The German club already has Robert Lewandowski in the squad, so a move for Haaland in summer looks unlikely. Manchester City is in the market for a replacement for Sergio Aguero, so a move for Haaland could be on the cards for the Premier League. The Manchester based club has the cash to burn, so it is financially viable deal for them.

Haaland’s father has previously played at Man City, so that link could help them in convincing to join blue side of Manchester. Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also eager to sign Haaland after handing him debut at Molde few years ago. Chelsea and Liverpool are also looking to bolster the attack by signing the Norway international.

In Spain, Real Madrid and Barcelona are always interested in top clubs. According to AS, Real Madrid will table an offer worth €150 million for the Norwegian striker. Both Spanish clubs have been severely affected by the pandemic, so it will be a big challenge for them to come up with bids that will beat other top clubs.

Haaland has an exceptional scoring tally since his playing days at youth level. He has established himself as one of Europe’s top strikers, scoring 45 goals in 46 games in all competitions for the German club. Dortmund would like to keep him beyond this summer, but considering losses they have faced due to pandemic, they might be eager to have a good bidding war for the striker.
