England Tour of Sri Lanka: ECB releases schedule

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the schedule for the tour of Sri Lanka on November 9. The English team will be playing two test matches in January 2021 that are part of the World Test Championship. The tour was supposed to take place in 2020, but the pandemic pushed it back to 2021.

As per the schedule, the first test will take place on January 14 at Galle. The second test will be hosted by the same stadium on January 22. The English team will arrive in the island nation on January 3 to start preparations for the test series. It remains to be seen what the quarantine period for the team in Sri Lanka will be.

English cricket team has been the most active international team during the pandemic. They hosted Pakistan and West Indies for test series in July. They also played the limited-overs series against Australia, Ireland, and Pakistan at home turf before English players went to UAE to participate in the Indian Premier League.

After the conclusion of IPL, the white ball team of England toured South Africa. They won all three T-20 games against South Africa, but the ODI series was suspended due to covid cases in both camps. It is not clear whether the series will be rescheduled next year.

England will have a lot of games in the subcontinent next year as they will also tour India for the four-match test series and five-match T-20 series. They will also visit India in the second half of 2021 to play T-20 World Cup.
