ECB appoints Jacques Kallis as batting consultant for Sri Lanka tour

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has roped in South African legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis as a batting consultant for the tour of Sri Lanka in January. England’s men’s national side will be touring the Island nation in mid-January for the two Test-match series. The 45-year-old South African great is just appointed for the tour of Sri Lanka and his extension is still uncertain.

Nowadays, every international side takes a dozen of coaches with them when they go overseas to play cricket. Along with head coach, teams have a batting, fielding, wicket-keeping, spin bowling, and fast bowling coach.

Jacques Kallis worked with South African team in a similar role during England’s tour of South Africa. Eventually, he was replaced by Neil McKenzie. Kallis enjoyed a formidable batting record in subcontinent conditions, averaging 55.37 with eight centuries.

ECB has decided to go with the rotation policy of players and support staff to minimize the stress of coronavirus and mental health. Graham Thorpe, the assistant to the Head Coach has been rested for the Sri Lankan tour but he would be joining for the tour of India.

Paul Collingwood will be assistant to Chris Silverwood, while Jon Lewis will be the bowling coach. Jeetan Patel will be the spin bowling consultant and Carl Hopkinson will serve as the fielding coach. Whereas, James Foster will be the wicket-keeping consultant.
