DP World India Championship announced with record $4 million prize fund

The DP World India Championship will be a crucial component of the "Back 9" phase of the 2025 Race to Dubai, the second and final stage of the DP World Tour season.

The DP World Tour has unveiled a significant addition to its 2025 schedule: the inaugural DP World India Championship.

This landmark tournament will feature a record-breaking prize fund of $4 million, the largest ever for a DP World Tour event held in India, and will take place at the prestigious Delhi Golf Club from October 16 to 19, 2025.

This event marks a powerful strengthening of the DP World Tour’s presence in the rapidly expanding Indian golf market and signifies its return to the historic Delhi Golf Club for the first time since 2016. Co-sanctioned by the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), the championship underscores the escalating prominence of Indian golf on the global stage and will offer a vital platform for both international stars and talented domestic players.

The lucrative DP World India Championship will be a crucial component of the “Back 9” phase of the 2025 Race to Dubai, the second and final stage of the DP World Tour season following the “Global Swings.” Positioned as the eighth of nine tournaments in this pivotal stretch, it will play a key role in determining the field for the season-ending DP World Tour playoffs in Dubai.

The substantial $4 million prize purse not only elevates the tournament’s profile but also demonstrates the DP World Tour’s significant investment in the Indian golf landscape. DP World, the title sponsor of the DP World Tour, will also serve as the title sponsor for this prestigious championship, further highlighting their commitment to the sport’s growth in the region. This sponsorship complements DP World’s broader sporting footprint in India, which includes partnerships with the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Delhi Capitals (DC), and their impactful grassroots initiatives such as the ‘Second Life’ container project and the ‘Balls for Birdies’ campaign.

Speaking on the occasion, Rizwan SoomarCEO & Managing Director, Middle East, North Africa & India Subcontinent of DP World said, “As a long-term partner of the Tour, we are delighted to announce the formation of the DP World India Championship. We are committed to growing the game of golf in the country and with our expertise, assets and global network, we are working to elevate the Tour in every way and drive positive community impact. The DP World India Championship reflects this commitment, ensuring that golf continues to evolve in exciting ways.”

Ben Cowen, DP World Tour Chief Tournament & Operations Officer, added, “We are delighted to extend our commitment to golf in India by establishing the new DP World India Championship alongside our valued partner DP World. DP World has been crucial to the development of this exciting new event, and we look forward to building on our shared vision to grow the game in the country. Our thanks also go to Delhi Golf Club for giving us the opportunity to return to such an iconic venue this October.”

Mr Kapil Dev, President of the Professional Golf Tour of India, continued, “The inaugural DP World India Championship is a landmark moment for Indian golf and a true reflection of India’s rising stature on the international golfing stage. We look forward to working jointly with our partners at the DP World Tour in making the event a grand success. The tournament provides a great opportunity for our professionals to rub shoulders with some of the best players in the world and gain valuable international exposure. A world-class field vying for a record prize purse and playing at a top-notch international venue such as Delhi Golf Club makes for a spectacle for Indian golf fans. The event will greatly contribute to further popularising the sport in our country.”

Mr Raj Khosla, President of the Delhi Golf Club, concluded, “We look forward to welcoming the DP World India Championship, where golfers from across the world shall not only get a chance to showcase their golfing skills but also enjoy the magnificent scenic beauty of Delhi Golf Club. I would draw special attention to the uniqueness of Delhi Golf Club, in that this wonderful course is interwoven between approximately 500-year-old Lodhi era monuments, offering a fabulous old-world charm while retaining a city-centre location that is easily accessible for golf fans.”

The announcement of the DP World India Championship further solidifies India’s position as an increasingly important destination for elite professional golf and promises to deliver a week of thrilling competition at the iconic Delhi Golf Club. Golf fans in India and around the world can anticipate witnessing world-class golf action as the Race to Dubai intensifies in the latter stages of the 2025 season.
