In the 16th match of the DP World Asia Cup 2025, defending champions India defeated Bangladesh by 41 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
India began their innings with a gratifying powerplay, mainly owing to Abhishek Sharma‘s (75) outstanding performance. The left-hander 7 fours and 6 sixes, at a strike rate of 202.70. He dominated the opening stand alongside Shubman Gill, who scored a fluent 29 from 19. By the end of the sixth over, India had reached 77/1, establishing a rapid rhythm for the rest of the innings. Post the powerplay, Bangladesh responded with some tight bowling. India lost wickets in quick succession. But the batting depth showed through. Hardik Pandya (38) played an important stabilising role, while Tilak Varma (5) and Axar Patel (10*) helped push the total to 168/6, just shy of par on a slow Dubai track.
Despite a lone knock from Saif Hassan (69), Bangladesh never seriously endangered the chase. Wickets fell frequently, and none of the middle-order batters lasted long enough to form partnerships. Their innings ended at 127 in 19.3 overs, falling 41 runs short of the mark.
Defending 168, India’s bowlers were flawless from the start. Jasprit Bumrah struck twice in the powerplay, removing both openers and stifling Bangladesh’s enthusiasm early. Kuldeep Yadav maintained his great form, taking 3/18 in 4 overs, unsettling the middle order with sharp turn and flight. Varun Chakaravarthy also contributed with 2/29, while Axar Patel bowled economically and took a key wicket. Varma, who only bowled three deliveries, also took a wicket, demonstrating India’s depth.
Rishad Hossain grabbed two crucial wickets for Bangladesh, while Mustafizur Rahman and Tanzim Hasan Sakib both bowled economically. However, allowing 72 runs in the powerplay put them on the back foot early.
With this win, India consolidate their lead in the Super Four table and appear to be on track for a successful finish.
