Volleyball World has confirmed a landmark global partnership with French sporting goods retailer Decathlon, marking one of the most strategically significant commercial agreements in the organisation’s history and signalling a clear shift toward participation-led growth across the global volleyball ecosystem.

Under the multi-year agreement, Volleyball World has appointed Decathlon as a global partner across its elite indoor and beach volleyball portfolio. The partnership will cover major international properties, including the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), World Championships and other flagship events, alongside grassroots and development-focused programmes.

The agreement represents the first time Volleyball World has entered into a global, multi-channel retail collaboration with a major sporting goods brand, creating a direct commercial and participation bridge between the sport’s elite competitions and everyday players worldwide.

Ugo Valensi, CEO of Volleyball World, said, “This partnership is a milestone for the VNL and Volleyball World. It marks the first time we’ve entered a global, multi-channel retail collaboration with a major sporting goods brand, and DECATHLON’s passion for volleyball has been evident from the outset. Their commitment to developing the sport and making it more accessible reflects our shared ambition for global growth. Together, we are building a new retail and fan-engagement ecosystem that will bring VNL closer to people everywhere, and we’re excited about the positive impact this will have on the global volleyball community.

Grégory Volpi, Volleyball Sport Leader at DECATHLON, added, “Volleyball is a universal sport that brings together millions of players around the world. At DECATHLON, our ambition is to make this passion accessible to as many people as possible. Becoming the Official Merchandising Partner of the Volleyball Nations League (VNL) represents a major strategic milestone for our brand, combining our product expertise and innovation capabilities with one of the most visible and prestigious international volleyball competitions. We are proud to welcome the VNL into DECATHLON’s Volleyball family and to collaborate with Volleyball World to jointly contribute to the development and global reach of the sport’s worldwide community.

The collaboration brings together Volleyball World’s global competition and media platform with Decathlon’s extensive retail, manufacturing and distribution infrastructure. With operations in more than 70 countries and a network of over 1,700 stores worldwide, Decathlon is expected to play a central role in improving access to volleyball equipment and accelerating participation across both established and emerging markets.

As part of the partnership, Decathlon will receive prominent visibility across Volleyball World events, including in-venue branding and integrated exposure across broadcast, digital and social platforms. The collaboration will also extend into product alignment and innovation initiatives, positioning Decathlon as a key contributor to volleyball’s long-term global development strategy.

For Volleyball World, the agreement reflects a broader evolution beyond traditional sponsorship models toward a more holistic ecosystem approach that connects fans, players and communities. By aligning with a partner capable of delivering scale at the grassroots level, the organisation aims to strengthen the pathway from global events to sustained, everyday participation.

The partnership also comes at a time of growing commercial momentum for volleyball. Despite being one of the most widely played sports globally, volleyball has historically been under-commercialised at the international level. The alliance with Decathlon signals a clear intent to capitalise on the sport’s vast participation base while reinforcing its relevance beyond major tournament cycles.

Both organisations view the partnership as a long-term investment in the future of the sport, combining elite competition, retail accessibility and community engagement to support sustainable global growth across the volleyball landscape.
