Daniel Worrall signs deal with Gloucestershire for 2021 campaign

South Australian seamer Daniel Worrall has signed a contract across all three formats of the game with English county side, Gloucestershire for the entire 2021 season. The 29-year-old has represented the county side earlier during 2018 season but couldn’t complete the season due to a back injury.

During his short stint for Gloucestershire, the seamer bagged 16 wickets with a best of 6 for 85 and he also composed his highest first-class score of 50 during that season. Worrall is currently playing for Adelaide Strikers in the ongoing season of Big Bash League.

The right-armer has represented his national side in three ODIs. However, he has a lot experience under his belt in the domestic cricket. He has taken 222 wickets in 77 domestic games. Worrall can also be a handy batsman down the order.

While commenting on the news about joining Gloucestershire, Worrall said, “I’m really excited to be back with Gloucestershire in 2021. They have a cracking bunch of lads who are all really dedicated to competing with the best and love being in Bristol. My goal is to perform individually to a high standard and help lead the young players in the squad to develop and fulfill their potential.”

The club has struggled to find an overseas player for the full season since Michael Klinger’s retirement from first-class cricket. Apart from Worrall, Gloucestershire has also completed deals for the former West Indies seamer, Jerome Taylor and Qais Ahmad. The county side has also signed Worrall’s countrymate Andrew Tye for the T20 Blast.

Richard Dawson, head coach of Gloucestershire, said, “He’s a great person to have in the changing room and to have a new ball bowler for the whole season is a positive boost not just for the bowling attack but for the whole squad. He can play in all formats; he‘s showing that right now in the BBL and he’s played a couple of four-day games for South Australia so he’s very flexible in what he can do with his skills which is very useful to have.”
