It’s turning out to be a busy transfer window for Spurs as Argentina and Atalanta BC centre back Cristian Romero has agreed on personal terms with the North London based club until 2026 with a fee reported of €55 million.
Romero has been one of the best centre back’s in Serie A this season for Atalanta and had the most aerial duals (3.6) in the league which is more than all the Spurs players. Romero was crowned Serie A’s ‘Defender of the Season’ and also registered three goals and five assists in 42 appearances for the club. He might be the key solution to Spurs defensive problems which could be very well seen last season.
The 23-year-old was also instrumental in Argentina’s Copa America triumph and was promising throughout the tournament. In three games, the player kept three clean sheets.
Romero started his professional career with Belgrano in Argentina and was then signed by Serie A side Genoa. After spending a season at Genoa he was roped in by Italian heavyweights Juventus but the Argentine didn’t make any appearances for the Old Lady and was sent out on loan to Genoa for 2019/2020 season and then to Atalanta in 2020/21 where he impressed everyone. Signing for Spurs is a huge step in his career and will also help him to get experience in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Romero is not the only Atalanta player moving to Spurs as the club has also signed goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini on loan and with an option to buy. The player is currently in London to sign a deal with The Lilywhites.
Spurs have also made a bid for Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu who’s tempted to join the club.
