Cricket Namibia, the governing body of the sport of cricket in Namibia, has announced a strategic partnership with First National Bank (FNB).

The agreement has named FNB the naming sponsor of the country’s new world-class cricket stadium. The development has marked a significant step forward for the development of the sport in the nation.

The state-of-the-art stadium, currently under construction, will be a cornerstone of Namibia’s cricket infrastructure. With the capacity to host international matches, it is set to become a hub for cricket in the region. The three-year partnership with FNB, extending until shortly before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, will provide Cricket Namibia with the financial resources needed to bolster cricket development initiatives nationwide.

Cricket Namibia CEO, Johan Muller, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are thankful and privileged to get FNB’s full support. They have been a consistent partner through our development program, and it is amazing to see their massive involvement now with the stadium and men’s cricket. We are proud to be associated with a brand like FNB. Thank you for supporting us in this journey as we create milestones together.”

Beyond the naming rights, FNB will serve as an associate partner for the Richelieu Eagles cricket team. The financial injection is expected to create new job opportunities, stimulate the local economy, and inspire a new generation of cricketers.

FNB, a leading financial institution with a global footprint, has a history of supporting sports development. This partnership aligns with the bank’s commitment to investing in the communities it serves.

Namibia’s cricket team is currently competing in the 2024-2026 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the 2027 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

As the partnership between Cricket Namibia and FNB deepens, the nation’s cricketing landscape is poised for unprecedented growth. The new stadium, coupled with increased investment in grassroots development, promises to elevate Namibia’s cricket standing on the global stage.
